Brisbane, Australia is the largest city in Queensland.  It reminds me a little of Columbus but with more modern high rise buildings.  In fact most of this area reminds me of America. The city is very clean with large Botanic Gardens near the river. More than 80 percent of their plants, mammals, reptiles and frogs are unique to Australia.  There are several museums, art galleries, and outdoor cafes that attract young people to the city. The buildings and freeway system are similar to ours. A one bedroom condo is about $500,000 in the city. There is a Koala sanctuary and Steve Irwin’s Zoo near the city.

We took a tour of the city before we headed to the Gold Coast.  The Gold Coast reminded me of Ft. Lauderdale.  The white sandy beaches were beautiful and the intercoastal had homes for the wealthy. We cruised the intercoastal and then went to Australia’s only beachside observation deck that takes you to the highest point above the Gold Coast for 360 degree views.

They have all the American fast food resaurants so I had KFC hot wings for lunch. This area also has a Sea World, water and amusement parks.
